  5. (This is the most important step for a smooth mash) Begin to mash your potatoes which either a masher or fork. Do not add anything until you are completely satisfied with the consistently of the mash.
  6. Add the butter and mix it around until it has all melted and mixed into the mash.
  7. Finally, stir in the chives into the mash and serve immediately.
